Joel Katz

Joel Katz, a singer and producer based in New Jersey, has sustained a deep passion across his life for the harmonious vocal styles of the doo wop period while actively championing the style through ongoing efforts. He has also applied his distinctive high, clear tenor to modern recordings that extend the same approach, frequently performing as Joel & the Dymensions and taking lead roles in additional ensembles such as the Del-Satins, the Autumns, the Wizards, and the Platinums. His vocal work began during high school when, at age 13, he assembled his initial ensemble, Joel & the Conchords; he later performed with the Belevederes and the Butanes during those same school years before joining the Autumns soon after graduation. He supplied the singing voice for the dancing bear character on the television program Captain Kangaroo during one stretch of his career. In 1977 he established a personal studio in Fair Lawn, NJ, reflecting his steady commitment to doo wop and vocal-group traditions, and he maintains an active schedule of recording and performing with multiple ensembles.
