Biography
Trained on the violin by Melzer along with Heissler and Hellmesberger—the final pair at the Vienna Conservatory—Schrammel established and headed the Schrammel Trio, whose members comprised his brother Josef on violin and bass guitarist Anton Strohmayer. Ahead of assembling that group, later enlarged into a quartet, Johann performed for the Harmonie and Josefstadt Theatre, completed military duty, and played in Margold’s salon orchestra. His output centered on dances, songs, and marches, among them “Wien bleibt Wien.”
