John Dahlback

Born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1985, tech-house producer John Dahlbäck experienced an early family relocation to a modest village beyond the capital. Immersed there in a household of active musicians, he absorbed instrumental skills directly from his parents and close relatives. Older cousin Jesper, already established as a producer and DJ, drew him into electronic production circles. Dahlbäck’s first 12-inch surfaced in 2002 on Deep4Life, the respected Chicago house label, while he was still seventeen. Dozens of subsequent tracks and remixes appeared on numerous prominent imprints, among them Germany’s Kompakt under the Hug alias, with his overall output eventually outpacing Jesper’s. His debut album, Man from the Fall, arrived on Systematic Records in 2005; only weeks afterward Little Angel Records issued the follow-up Shades of a Shadow. Dahlbäck also directs the German dirty house and techno label Pickadoll Records. Another full-length, At the Gunshow, is scheduled for release in fall 2006.
