Biography
Serving as drummer in the iconic Doors, John Densmore entered the ensemble alongside guitarist Robby Krieger, both having been drawn from their prior group, the Psychedelic Rangers. Though arguably the most understated participant in the lineup, Densmore’s background in jazz introduced nuanced rhythmic variations that deviated from standard rock patterns, enhancing the group’s distinctive style. Following the breakup of the Doors, Densmore maintained a low profile while collaborating intermittently with Robby Krieger on the latter’s individual recordings as well as in the Butts Band. More recently, he authored the well-received Riders on the Storm: My Life With Jim Morrison and the Doors, which details the ensemble’s ascent and demise through his personal lens.
