Singer and keyboardist John Fluker entered the world in Lansing, MI, where he spent his formative years. Piano instruction began for him at age eight, while his initial exposure to vocal performance arrived through participation in his local church choir. He pursued higher education at the University of Michigan and earned a B.A. in music theory upon graduation. Relocating to Los Angeles afterward, he took on roles at various churches and established himself as a vocal coach whose roster eventually encompassed Jennifer Lopez. His professional path next led to backup positions with touring ensembles, beginning with the Diamonds, followed by studio sessions that utilized his skills as both a background vocalist and keyboardist. Those efforts placed him alongside Oleta Adams, Hinton Battle, Regina Belle, Boyz II Men, Whoopi Goldberg, Sam Harris, David Hasselhoff, Stephanie Mills, Queen Latifah, Brenda Russell, Mavis Staples, and Dionne Warwick. A significant opportunity arose when Gladys Knight engaged him as her accompanist and musical director, resulting in multiple television appearances and recording dates. His contributions stood out on her 2005 gospel release One Voice, where he shared the duet “Did You Know” and co-authored “He Shines on Me.” Shifting toward instrumental work, Fluker issued his first solo project, The Sound of Peace, a set of keyboard pieces that Retribution Records brought out on May 1, 2006. Later the same year he delivered the seasonal collection J Is for Joy.
