John Harle

Born in England in 1958, Harle has consistently been associated more closely with the saxophone itself than with any particular musical style. Having received classical instruction at both the Royal College of Music and the Paris Conservatoire, he contributed significantly to broadening the saxophone’s presence in classical music during recent years. During the late 1980s, he founded the improvisational ensemble known as the John Harle Band, which has accompanied him on tours ever since, while he has also earned acclaim for his collaborative duo performances alongside John Lenehan. At present, he holds the position of Professor of Saxophone at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
