Biography
John Lindahl emerged as a pop vocalist, songwriter, and performer whose luminous falsetto and memorable, R&B-tinged melodies carried him from a finalist appearance on The X Factor in 2011 into an independent path. Born in 1980 in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and raised in Mission Viejo, California, he developed an early fascination with live performance while absorbing a broad range of pop, rock, and soul influences that included Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, and Lauryn Hill as well as Michael Jackson, Queen, and Led Zeppelin. His foundation in musical theater and command of several instruments led the 14-year-old to audition for the first season of The X Factor in 2011; although eliminated early, he continued as part of the ten-member group InTENsity, which finished in twelfth place. Epic Records noticed his initial tryouts and extended a five-album contract, yet he left the label before issuing any material, gaining instead key industry relationships and songwriting sessions with leading professionals. In December 2014 he resurfaced with a version of “This Christmas” that featured Boyz II Men. Around the same period, writing sessions had impressed Bobby Campbell, who in 2015 connected Lindahl with rapper Logic. This led to guest vocals, shared with Jessica Andrea, on “Flexicution” from Logic’s July 2016 mixtape Bobby Tarantino; that same month Lindahl issued his own mixtape, Control. The following year he released the standalone single “Gimme One Chance,” produced by RedOne, and contributed vocals to Logic’s Everybody album; Logic appeared in return on Lindahl’s later 2017 single “The Feeling.” The EP Changes arrived in December of that year on Logic’s Elysium label. In 2020 Lindahl issued his debut full-length album, Opening Night, through Logic’s Def Jam imprint BobbyBoy Records, which included the featured track “All Night.”
