Biography
Hailing originally from Britain yet now based in Los Angeles, singer-songwriter Johnny Ashby specializes in catchy pop-rock that carries an undercurrent of romantic self-reflection. His profile rose through both his contributions to the duo Kid Giant and the release of his first EP, Cannonball Days, in 2015, followed by the 2020 sequel Born Again.
London served as the starting point for Ashby, whose early fascination with music developed through repeated listens to his father’s mixtapes. Guitar soon became his instrument of choice, leading him to perform with multiple groups throughout his teenage years. Once college ended, he relocated to Los Angeles with the goal of building a professional career in music. Cannonball Days appeared in 2015 and quickly drew listeners on various streaming services. While maintaining an active performance schedule, he also taught in Santa Monica, where he met fellow songwriter Carl Thompson. The pair subsequently launched Kid Giant, securing placements for their material on numerous television programs such as Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, and Elementary. Two self-produced EPs emerged from the collaboration as well. Ashby resumed solo work in 2020 with Born Again, an EP that included contributions from several members of Grizfolk.
