Biography
Hailing from Caracas, Venezuela, Johnny Sigal stepped into the spotlight as a Latin pop/rock performer with the release of his first solo album in 2008. He has long pointed to the trailblazing Latin alternative rock outfits Soda Stereo of Argentina and La Ley of Chile as primary influences. A starring turn in a well-received Spanish-language production of Jesus Christ Superstar led to a contract offer from EMI Latin, after which he partnered with longtime producer Marcello Azevedo—whose résumé includes work alongside Latin pop figures such as Chayanne, Paulina Rubio, and Thalía—for the full-length Johnny Sigal (2008). The project’s songs came from Azevedo, César Lemos, and Estéfano, plus two numbers written by Sigal himself, and yielded the hit singles “Quedo en Nada” and “Cuando Te Perdí.”
