Born on 18 October 1906 in Canton, Mississippi, USA, and deceased on 22 November 1968 in Jackson, Mississippi, USA, Temple acquired his guitar skills from stepfather Slim Duckett, the noted Jackson-area performer who cut sides for OKeh Records in 1930. He also handled mandolin and regularly played house parties along with juke-joints. Relocating to Chicago in 1932, Temple took on general all-round musician duties and cut blues sides for Decca as well as Vocalion Records. He collaborated with the celebrated McCoy brothers and appeared on record with the raucous jazz outfit the Harlem Hamfats. Temple maintained his Chicago presence deep into the postwar years, sharing stages with figures such as Billy Boy Arnold and Walter Horton while assembling his own unit, the Rolling Four. Returning to Jackson during the mid-60s, he succumbed to cancer at age 62 following an extended illness.
