Biography
Johnson Products operated as a funk and disco ensemble that issued the 1979 single "Johnson Jumpin'" on the Sound of New York imprint, also known as SONY. This label ranked among multiple modest underground disco operations overseen by producers Peter Brown and Patrick Adams throughout the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. The track itself arrived as a gritty instrumental built from funky guitar flicks, varied hand percussion, and loosely anchored synth lines that were presumably handled by the innovative Adams. Brown and Adams evidently prized "Johnson Jumpin'" highly, since reworkings of the number later supplied the core elements for several rap recordings on their imprints, among them "Willie Rap" by Willie Wood & Crew and "Super-jay Love Theme" by Super-jay.
