Biography
Born on August 3, 1977, Singaporean Mandopop vocalist Joi Chua gained prominence in her native country between 2004 and 2005, ranking among its top commercial artists of that span. She launched her professional path through an affiliation with Ocean Butterflies. The 2000 solo debut Joi, issued via a joint arrangement with Sony Music Taiwan, registered weak sales both in Taiwan, where promotion concentrated, and domestically. After several years, she resurfaced with Sunrise in 2004 on Warner Music’s Play Music division, which performed strongly in Singapore and placed among the territory’s highest-selling local releases that year. The 2005 follow-up One Day I Will matched that reception, resulting in the 2006 Taiwanese compilation Joi New Songs + Greatest Hits. Her subsequent album Blessed reached the market in 2007 with campaigns in both Singapore and Taiwan.
