Biography
Joji Hirota, a master of the taiko drum, entered the world in northern Japan. There, the legendary percussionist Itto Oba made a profound impression on him during childhood. After settling in London, Hirota pursued a blend of Eastern and Western sounds across his solo projects, among them Rain Forest Dream, and joined keyboardist Pol Brennan along with flautist Guo Yue for the 1993 release Trisan. Drawing from the recent loss of his father and drum teacher, he issued the album The Gate in 1999.
