Joker's Daughter emerges as an atmospheric folk-pop ensemble formed through the partnership of Helena Costas, a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist of Greek origin now based in England, alongside the innovative hip-hop artist and producer Danger Mouse, known for his work with Gnarls Barkley, Danger Doom, and DM & Jemini. Having launched her musical path on violin, Costas shapes refined pop compositions that pull inspiration from sources as varied as mythology, cuisine, and British folk-rock of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Their creative exchange started in 2003 through home-recorded demos that Danger Mouse later enriched with his characteristic range of sounds and textures. The group's first album, Last Laugh, appeared in 2009 and included brass contributions from Neutral Milk Hotel's Scott Spillane as well as string arrangements by Daniele Luppi.
