Biography
Originally performing under the name Bo Grumpus, the quartet that later became Jolliver Arkansaw began as the Bait Shop in Boston before relocating to New York. There producer Felix Pappalardi and his wife proposed the Bo Grumpus moniker, which the band adopted for a single well-regarded Atco album. A subsequent move to Bell Records triggered legal issues that compelled them to abandon the earlier name. Under the new identity Jolliver Arkansaw, the lineup of Eddie Mottau on guitar, Joe Hutchinson on guitar and keyboards, Jim Colegrove on bass, and Ronnie Blake on drums issued the 1969 album Home. The group disbanded in early 1970. Mottau, Hutchinson, and Colegrove each went on to sustain extended careers in music.
