A worship leader and songwriter affiliated with New Life Church, headquartered in Colorado, Jon Egan worked alongside artists such as Jeremy Camp, Jason Ingram, and Kari Jobe both through the church and as a participant in the alternative CCM outfit Desperation Band. Embracing an introspective and atmospheric approach within Christian rock, he issued his debut solo project, Unveil, in 2019.

Egan established Desperation Band alongside Jared Anderson and Glenn Packiam soon after connecting with New Life Church in Colorado Springs near the start of the 2000s. Serving within the church’s worship ministry, the ensemble expanded to incorporate additional congregants and maintained a fluid membership under Egan’s direction. The band entered the scene with Desperation in 2003 and followed the next year with From the Rooftops; that release contained Egan’s composition “I Am Free,” later turned into a hit by the Newsboys through their 2006 rendition. Desperation Band continued with Who You Are in 2006 and Everyone Overcome in 2007, each of which placed inside the Top 30 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. Their fifth album, Light Up the World, marked the group’s initial entry on the Billboard 200 in 2009 at number 159, while Center of It All returned them to that ranking in 2012. Banner: Live from Desperation Conference arrived in 2014, featuring Egan’s “On the Throne,” and reached the Christian Top 10 along with number 154 on the overall U.S. album chart.

For his first solo effort, Egan partnered with songwriters Chris McClarney, Mitch Wong, and Jason Ingram once more. Issued by Integrity Music in 2019, Unveil captured live performances drawn from multiple gatherings at New Life Church, among them the 2018 Desperation Conference attended by more than 4,000 teens.
