Raised in Portland, Oregon and now based in Raleigh, North Carolina, singer/songwriter Jon Lindsay began sharpening his musical abilities at age three, though his emergence as a commanding force in power pop production, songwriting, composing, and activism came later. Born to a minister father and an award-winning children’s book author mother, Lindsay spent his early years leading groups such as the Young Sons, Catch Fire, and Carlisle while also performing as a multi-instrumentalist on tour alongside Nicole Atkins and Benji Hughes. In 2009 he put out the independent EP Magic Winter & the Dirty South and helped establish Charlotte’s Machine Theatre, taking on the role of music director. His debut full-length album, Escape from Plaza-Midwood, arrived in 2010 on Chicago’s Chocolate Lab Records, with the follow-up Summer Wilderness Program appearing in 2012 through Bear Hearts Fox. The next year, alongside Whiskeytown violinist/vocalist Caitlin Cary, he launched the North Carolina Music Love Army, a regionally focused, politically engaged artist collective. The organization served as the vehicle for a series of pointed protest songs, and in 2015 Lindsay issued two singles ahead of his third studio album, Cities and Schools, slated for release the following year.
