Biography
Jonathan Balas, an alternative pop singer and songwriter, grew up in Los Angeles, where he dabbled briefly with piano before switching to guitar during his teenage years. His parents eventually supplied a four-track recorder that allowed him to produce an initial three-song demo, after which the 18-year-old headed to Seattle for an internship at Robert Lang Studios. He next relocated to Nashville, resulting in the band Exit East cutting his song "I Will Save You." By tapping into the peak popularity of MySpace, Balas generated grassroots online momentum in late 2005 through an MP3 of "California Here I Go," which subsequently aired on MTV’s Laguna Beach and helped stir interest ahead of his debut LP in 2006.
