Biography
Scottish cellist and gambist Jonathan Manson was born in Edinburgh. His training included studies with Jane Cowan at the International Cello Centre as well as with Steven Doane and Christel Thielmann at the Eastman School of Music, while Wieland Kuijken guided his work on the viola da gamba at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. As a founding member of the viol consort Phantasm, he has appeared with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, the Academy of Ancient Music, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, The English Concert, the Gabrieli Consort and Players, the English Baroque Soloists, and the European Brandenburg Ensemble. Early-music specialists with whom he has worked include Trevor Pinnock, Rachel Podger, Emmanuel Pahud, and Matthew Truscott. Manson also serves as cellist of the London Haydn Quartet, resides in London, and holds a teaching post at the Royal Academy of Music.
