Biography
Blending languid dream pop with swirling psychedelia and classic pop songcraft, Jonathan Personne serves as the solo outlet for Jonathan Robert, the singer and guitarist from Montreal's Corridor, a band rooted in post-punk revival. After receiving an eight-track recorder, Robert turned to material that moved away from angsty, bouncy energy. Drawing from power pop and psychedelia while maximizing the lo-fi setup's experimental possibilities, he devoted several years to capturing ideas, building layered textures, and incorporating input from players tied to Corridor, Ponctuation, and VICTIME. Once the material was complete, he named the project Jonathan Personne and performed a series of concerts with the same musicians who had contributed to the recordings. Its opening single, "Comme Personne," appeared in late 2018, with "Dernier Voyage" arriving in early 2019. Both tracks featured on the first Jonathan Personne album, Histoire Naturelle, issued by the French label Requiem Pour Un Twister in February 2019.
