Born in East London and steeped from childhood in soul and R&B, Cherie Jones first surfaced publicly in early 2015 when she posted her opening track, “Deep,” on SoundCloud. After inking a deal with the independent imprint 37 Adventures, she issued her introductory EP, Indulge, that April, electing to bill herself solely by her surname. Working alongside producers A.K. Paul, Brunelle, Raffertie, and XL’s Rodaidh McDonald, the project highlighted Jones’s direct, forceful, and impassioned delivery while fusing tactile acoustic textures and resonant, earthy guitar lines with bold, atmospheric electronics and rich, incisive, melody-driven refrains.

She followed that release by delivering an acoustic reading of the title track for BBC’s Later...with Jools Holland, then unveiled the single “Hoops,” helmed by Josh Record and XO. Observers likened her work to that of the xx and Lykke Li, labeling the overall approach “digital soul.” In 2016 Jones unveiled her first studio album, New Skin, which housed “Hoops” together with the stand-alone cuts “Melt” and “Wild.” The following year she resurfaced with the single “Something Bout Our Love.”
