Fronted by vocalist John Reid Lindner, the Colorado-rooted ensemble draws from Chicago blues traditions alongside rhythm and blues influences. Emerging during the mid-eighties around Boulder, Colorado, Jonny Mogambo made its rounds on the local club and bar scene. That very scene served as a proving ground for acts such as Leftover Salmon, String Cheese Incident, and Big Head Todd. The outfit issued its first record, Colorado Golden, in 1998. Following that launch, performances spanned Colorado and extended into the Midwest, cultivating a modest yet devoted fanbase for Jonny Mogambo. Ski resorts throughout the area, notably those in Vail, Colorado, became the group's specialty venues. Labeling their style "skunkabilly," the band put out Jonny Mogambo Wired And Unplugged during 2002.
