Biography
Throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s, electro outfit Jonzun Crew issued several albums that applied their own twist to the playful sci-fi motifs of Parliament/Funkadelic, among them the singles "Pack Jam (Look Out for the OVC)," "Space Is the Place," "Space Cowboy," and "We Are the Jonzun Crew." The Johnson brothers—Florida natives Michael, Soni, and Larry (the last better known as Maurice Starr)—launched Jonzun Crew in Boston in 1981, later adding Gordy Worthy and Steve Thorpe to the lineup at various points. Starr and Michael later earned wider attention by helping introduce New Edition and New Kids on the Block; Michael, who kept Jonzun as his surname, also recorded briefly as a solo artist for A&M and contributed to multiple other performers' projects.
