Lidon served in multiple capacities as a musician, among them organist at Orense Cathedral, first organist of the royal chapel in Madrid, and rector of the Real Colegio. He retained the final two appointments until the end of his life. His body of work spans organ music, sacred vocal compositions accompanied by orchestra, a serious opera, and chamber pieces. Counterpoint, figured bass, and melodic lines distributed evenly among the voices shaped his organ writing. Austerity and simplicity marked the sacred choral output. His opera seria differed little from the Italian operas then current, yet its setting in Castilian rendered it unique. Beyond constituting an uncommon genre for Spanish composers, the chamber music holds scant further appeal.
