Josiah Wolf maintains ties to the Why? ensemble and the Anticon collective as an indie pop multi-instrumentalist whose first solo album, Jet Lag, appeared in 2010. Born in Cincinnati, OH, he began drumming lessons at age nine under his father, a rabbi, before enrolling in music studies at the University of Cincinnati. His earliest solo recording arrived in 2003 with the lo-fi The Josiah EP, which drew inspiration from his brother Jonathan. At that same moment, the younger sibling—widely known as Yoni—issued his own debut full-length under the Why? name, Oaklandazulasylum (2003). Prompted by the album’s reception, Josiah relocated westward and entered the Why? ranks, which had grown from a solo venture into a quartet. He first performed with the group as drummer on its second release, Elephant Eyelash (2005), and later contributed to Alopecia (2008) and Eskimo Snow (2009). Wolf’s own debut full-length, the psychedelic pop album Jet Lag (2010), followed; recorded inside a cottage in the woods and issued on Anticon, the set finds him handling vocals, songwriting, and multiple instruments alone. Throughout this period he stayed with Why? and opened shows for the band on its 2010 tour.
