Biography
Pianist and vocalist Juan Carlos Caceres draws upon tango's foundational elements—the milonga, candombe, and habanera—to shape an intensely emotional approach he describes as emerging from the "caves of existentialism and jazz with ten years of time shift." Born in Buenos Aires, he has made his home in Paris since 1968. His initial trio of releases, Malon from 1972, Gotan from 1979, and Tangofon from 1992, remained purely instrumental until he first revealed his vocal abilities on the 1993 album Solo. Maintaining equilibrium between independent projects and joint endeavors with fellow artists, Caceres followed the solo outing Intimo in 1996 by capturing Live with a percussion-heavy trio. He regularly appears alongside a quintet comprising accordionist Didier Ithursarry, percussionists Eddy Tomassi and Javier Estrella, and cellist Sedef Ercetin.
