Biography
Jud Strunk pursued a career as a singer, songwriter, and comedian while maintaining strong commitments to social and environmental causes. Born in New York, he relocated to Farmington, Maine, in 1960 and began performing at a nearby hotel. He later developed a solo routine for the U.S. Armed Forces circuit, took a role in the Broadway production Beautiful Dreamer, and appeared frequently on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In throughout the early 1970s. His first album, Downeast Viewpoint, appeared in 1970, followed three years later by Jones' General Store. The same year brought his strongest commercial success with the single "Daisy a Day," which reached the pop Top 15 and the country Top 40. In 1974 he scored another hit via the spoken-word piece "My Country." Strunk and his group Coplin Kitchen issued A Semi-Reformed Tequila Crazed Gypsy Looks Back in 1977. Four years afterward he perished in a small-plane accident in Maine.
