Biography
Drawing from an eclectic array of sources including The Weavers, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Johann Sebastian Bach, and the Beatles, Judy Barnett launched her vocal career while still thirteen years old in London. Her stage work has spanned roles in a repertory theater ensemble and a steel band, along with composing a musical and collaborating across rock, calypso, and jazz ensembles. In 1985 she established the well-known jazz venue J's, running the establishment and taking the stage there until 1993. Barnett's talents as both vocalist and composer have earned her seven MAC Jazz Vocalist awards together with ten ASCAP Songwriting prizes. Her discography features two well-regarded releases: the self-titled Judy Barnett from 1995 and Swingin' from 1998. She maintains an active schedule performing with Jazz-A-Teria at clubs throughout the New York metropolitan area.
