Biography
Originating from New Zealand, Julia Darling launched her creative path through dance in Melbourne, Australia, before turning to poetry as an expressive medium that soon developed into songwriting. She obtained an acoustic guitar after borrowing funds from a roommate, which allowed her to work as a street performer until a record company executive passing by took notice. That encounter helped her secure a manager and issue an EP of original material, leading directly to a recording contract with Wind-Up Records. The label’s first release from Darling was her 1999 full-length debut, Figure 8.
