During the years spanning 1944 to 1950, Julia Lee frequently laid down tracks for Capitol as a well-liked performer whose suggestive lyrics and energetic keyboard playing established her as a standout draw in Kansas City. Between 1920 and 1934 she contributed piano and vocals to the ensemble led by her sibling George E. Lee, with joint sessions occurring in 1927 and 1929 that featured the number "If I Could Be with You One Hour Tonight," while she also produced a pair of solo recordings in 1929 titled "He's Tall, He's Dark and He's Handsome" and "Won't You Come Over to My House." Following the dissolution of her brother's group, she maintained steady solo engagements throughout Kansas City. Her association with Capitol began in 1944, during which sessions she was supported by musicians such as Jay McShann, Vic Dickenson, Benny Carter, Red Norvo, and Red Nichols in addition to numerous hometown talents. Julia Lee added just four more tracks to her discography after 1952, though she continued performing until her passing in 1958.
