Biography

L.A. outfit julie approaches quasi-shoegaze with an uncommon sense of urgency while shifting between hazy male-female indie pop and tracks cloaked in gritty distortion. Their shadowy yet buoyant first single “flutter” spread rapidly online after its 2020 release, prompting the self-issued EP pushing daisies the next year and, ultimately, a deal with Atlantic for the 2024 full-length my anti-aircraft friend.

Formed shortly after high school by Orange County natives Keyan Pourzand on guitar and vocals, Alex Brady on bass and vocals, and Dillon Lee on drums, the trio began writing material together at once. Although Brady had always sung, each member picked up their band instruments without formal instruction. Issued early in 2020 on the Stockholm label Amuseio AB, “flutter” drew tens of millions of streams through its brisk tempo, looming guitar textures, feedback-laced dissonance, and ghostly paired vocals that echoed delicate indie pop. Themes of mortality and romantic loss shaped the August 2021 EP pushing daisies.

The group reached a major-label audience with Atlantic’s August 2022 release of the double-sided single “pg.4 a picture of three hedges” b/w “through your window,” then continued with “catalogue” in September 2023 and “clairbourne practice” in July 2024 before unveiling the full album my anti-aircraft friend on the label in September 2024.
