Biography
Julie Hanney works as a pianist, composer, arranger, and teacher, crafting a calming, tranquil sound that merges new age, jazz, and contemporary classical influences. She lives in Bend, Oregon, where she issued her first album, Painting in Sound, during 2019.
Her engagement with music began early, when her grandmother—a music instructor—first placed her at the piano at age five. Following completion of her music studies at the University of Oregon, she turned to arranging and composing for choirs, quartets, and ensembles before developing the material that formed her debut release. That 2019 album, Painting in Sound, drew from the approaches of George Winston and Erik Satie while positioning Hanney as a notable emerging voice among solo instrumentalists. She followed it later the same year with the holiday collection A Peace-Filled Christmas and, in 2021, presented her third full-length recording, Where the Ocean Meets the Sky.
