Biography
Born during 1963 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, Julie Matthews has earned recognition as a leading British singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, chiefly through her contributions to the Albion Band and her partnership with former member Chris While. Without formal lessons, this versatile musician started crafting original material during her school days and later headed to London at eighteen to join a modest publishing company as a songwriter. She entered the Albion Band in 1990, quickly emerging as a central creative presence inside the widely admired folk-rock outfit steered by Ashley Hutchings. That affiliation preceded the 1998 launch of her enduring and prosperous folk duo with Chris While, inaugurated by the album Piecework. The pair’s latest release, Who We Are, appeared in 2014.
