Biography
Born in Texas, singer-songwriter Julie Miller was raised in a household devoted to music. While still a teenager in Austin she launched her professional singing career and began working alongside guitarist, singer, and songwriter Buddy Miller, the man who would become her husband. The pair relocated to Nashville, where Buddy soon issued his first solo album, Your Love and Other Lies, on HighTone Records. Julie supplied both vocals and original material to the set, among them the song “All My Tears,” later recorded by Emmylou Harris and Jimmy Scott. Harris subsequently joined forces with both Millers, hiring Buddy as lead guitarist for her 1996 tour and contributing guest vocals to Julie’s Blue Pony (1997) and Broken Things (1999). The Millers also joined Victoria Williams, Mark Olson, and Jim Lauderdale in the Creek Dippers and worked with Steve Earle and Patty Griffin, the latter two of whom added their voices to Broken Things. In 2001 the husband-and-wife duo Buddy & Julie Miller released their self-titled debut album, while a compilation of earlier HighTone material, Love Snuck Up, appeared in 2004. Their follow-up, Written in Chalk, came out on New West in 2009.
