Brighton, England-based engineer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Joe Watson fronts the experimental electronic pop outfit Junior Electronics after earlier stints alongside the stylistically aligned Imitation Electric Piano and Stereolab. His tenure with Stereolab began in 2004, during which he oversaw engineering for the group’s concluding output, among them the singles later compiled on Fab Four Suture and the final album Chemical Chords. The 2008 Junior Electronics EP, issued on Stereolab’s Duophonic imprint, housed Watson’s own material and included contributions from Laetitia Sadier and Simon Johns of that band plus Imitation Electric Piano’s Mary Hampton. Additional credits encompass engineering and mixing work for the High Llamas and Monade, while Watson maintains his personal studio, flipflop. Bureau B Records put out Musostics in 2012, a collection of similarly playful yet cerebral tracks that once again paired Watson with Hampton.
