Biography
Juniper Lane, an alternative pop/rock outfit, came together in 1999 when Vivion Smith (vocals, keyboards), Chris Bonavia (guitar), Brian Frederick (bass), and Eddie Pasa (drums, vocals) formed the band. Dividing their schedule between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., the quartet rapidly built local audiences in each location. Tightrope arrived as their first album in 2001, drawing widespread critical acclaim that singled out Smith for particular notice and likened her style to Evanescence’s Amy Lee. Two years afterward the band issued the follow-up Sirens from a Mile Back, only to enter a sudden hiatus in 2004 after Smith endured a near-fatal climbing accident. Following a week-long coma and twelve months of rehabilitation, she returned to the group and resumed collaboration on Wake from Yourself, which appeared in 2007.
