Biography
Formed in 1971, Kahvas Jute quickly built a strong following through live performances and released their sole album, Wide Open, the next January. That record stands as a landmark progressive rock release, defined by its sweeping compositions and exceptional guitar playing. The single "Free"/"Ascend" appeared in July 1971. After guitarist Tim Gaze departed, the remaining trio headed to the U.K. in June 1971, where they failed to gain traction before disbanding. Bassist Bob Daisley later joined multiple heavy metal acts and contributed session work for guitarists including Yngwie Malmsteen and Stevie Vai. In May 1973, Dennis Wilson reformed Khavas Jute alongside drummer Dannie Davidson and bassist Scott Maxey. The group backed Bo Diddley on his Australian tour that October. Peter Roberts took over for Maxey in March 1974, and the band adopted the name Chariot by May.
