Biography

In 1992, AC Lorenzo assembled the vocal quintet Kai by enlisting Andrew Gapuz and Leo Chan to appear at a benefit concert in the San Francisco area and then sustained the partnership with both singers. The lineup grew in 1995 through the addition of Errol Viray and Andrey Silva, Lorenzo’s cousin, after which the group promptly secured a contract with the local HB Records. Their debut single, “Say You’ll Stay,” earned solid regional radio support, which in turn secured a Geffen deal in 1997. Kai’s self-titled first album reached stores in June 1998.
