Biography
Distinct from similarly named groups hailing from California and England, Kaleidoscope originated in Mexico and was active during the latter half of the 1960s, matching the timeframe of those other acts. Their only record, performed entirely in English, represented a solid yet conventional example of garage rock blended with psychedelia, emphasizing prominent oscillating organ tones, distorted guitar, and gruff singing. Evoking the atmosphere of a mid-1967 exploitation film centered on psychedelic themes, the music featured a superior ensemble compared to typical productions of that sort, incorporating erratic whimsical sonic manipulations alongside lead singing that conveyed casual arrogance while revealing only subtle traces of non-native pronunciation. Reports indicate that merely a few hundred units of the original vinyl release were manufactured, and although a subsequent pressing appeared via La Ciruela Electrica, it too was restricted to 600 copies.
