Excitable punk six-piece Kaputt assembled out of players drawn from multiple groups active in Glasgow’s D.I.Y. scene. On their 2019 debut album Carnage Hall the band channeled a feverish, dance-driven intensity into tracks that addressed rats, relationships, and societal desperation.

The project itself originated in Glasgow during 2017. Its initial five-piece roster pulled from a broad range of the city’s local D.I.Y. punk community and featured vocalist/saxophonist Chrissy Barnacle, drummer Rikki Will, bassist Tobias Carmichael, and vocalist/guitarists Cal Donnelly and Simone Wilson. Because each participant already belonged to or still belonged to at least one other band, the new outfit operated like a supergroup within the city’s close-knit network. The musicians soon cut a four-song demo and issued it right away on Fuzzkill Records. Frequent live performances followed, and the group added percussionist Emma Smith as its sixth member in time for the full-length debut. Released in 2019 by Upset the Rhythm, that album carried the title Carnage Hall.
