Biography
Originating from Washington State's Vashon Island, Kat Eggleston entered the world there and grew up immersed in music. Her formative years involved absorbing vocal techniques directly from her mother while committing 11 years to formal piano instruction. Upon finishing her training at Spokane's Interplayers Ensemble in 1983, she launched into live work the next year alongside the Ferryboat Musicians, Four Women at Play, Fool Moon, and David Bromberg, delivering both folk standards and original material. The 1989 release First Warm Wind documented her engaging alto and flexible guitar approach for the first time, securing prominent slots at the Kerrville and Columbia River Festivals.
She relocated to the Chicago region in 1990 and soon entered an agreement with the regional folk imprint Waterbug Records. Projects with her partner Andrew Calhoun appeared alongside the solo recordings Second Nature in 1994 and Outside Eden in 1996. Waterbug Records reissued First Warm Wind in 1999.
