Salt Lake City prog-metal outfit Katagory V emerged in 1999 when guitarist Curtis Morrell and bassist Dustin Mitchell joined forces. They soon enlisted drummer Matt Suiter, guitarist Ryan Taylor, and vocalist Lynn Allers to complete the lineup. Their debut effort Present Day, tracked in 2000, reached stores two years later through independent channels and generated considerable early attention. Yet internal and external pressures began to erode that momentum as work on the follow-up began. Guitarist Ryan Taylor departed during the writing stage, with Trevor Asire stepping in only after tracking wrapped. Release delays for the resulting record A New Breed of Rebellion further tested the group, though the album finally surfaced in January 2004. Refusing to lose ground, the band adopted a fresh studio-to-stage approach and finished The Rising Anger in 2005, issuing it the following year. In 2008 Nightmare Records put out their next collection, Hymns of Dissension.
