Kate St. John's most visible work came through the Dream Academy, yet after that ensemble dissolved the woodwind player, singer, and composer maintained an active schedule across multiple ventures. She contributed regularly to Van Morrison's solo recordings and joined composer Roger Eno for the 1993 album The Familiar. Together with Bill Nelson, Laraaji, and Mayumi Tachibana she assembled the ambient-art rock collective Channel Light Vessel, which issued a CD in 1994. Her first solo release, Indescribable Night from 1995, presents a delicate yet compelling statement that highlights her classical arrangement abilities alongside French chanteuse pop sensibilities. Second Sight appeared two years later.
