Hailing from Massapequa in New York, Kathy Fleischmann demonstrates notable abilities as a vocalist and composer. Her initial instruction on violin took place in third grade, yet she set the instrument aside after roughly two years. As a teenager she concentrated instead on guitar and vocal technique. The year 1989 brought her relocation from New York to Florida. Once settled in her new home state she appeared regularly at local venues and joined the core lineups of the alternative bands Big Tall Wish and Poetic Injustice. Turning solo in 1993, she issued her independently produced debut album Anamorphosis. The following year brought the six-track EP Speaking Guillotine. In 1996 she released Sympathetic Coffee, which contained every selection from the earlier EP plus six additional tracks. Ten Doors Down reached completion in 1998. Her body of work, consisting chiefly of original material, fuses blues, pop, and progressive folk. Regular travel allows her to perform at clubs and coffeehouses across various locations. She has also supplied backing vocals for numerous other artists’ recordings and has opened shows for the Mavericks and Roger McGuinn. Xs Magazine and Miami New Times each named her Best Acoustic Performer. The year 2000 yielded the live recording Live from the Cutting Room. Audiences can encounter “Graveyard Dream Blues,” “Wild Strawberries,” “Concrete Blankets,” “Manhattan,” and “Figure 8's” either during her stage appearances or on her recorded output.
