Biography
Vocalist, songwriter, producer, and visual artist Katie Alice Greer fuses radical experimentation with irresistibly catchy pop instincts in her work. After serving for years as frontperson of the politically charged, punk-tinged rock outfit Priests, she channeled a more intimate perspective into her fully self-produced and self-recorded debut full-length, Barbarism, issued in 2022.
Raised in Michigan, she eventually settled in Washington, D.C., immersing herself in the local D.I.Y. music community. She performed and toured with Chain and the Gang before co-founding Priests in 2012. The band maintained a busy schedule throughout the following years, playing frequent live dates and issuing well-received records including the 2017 album Nothing Feels Natural. Alongside fellow Priests members, Greer established the independent Sister Polygon imprint, which put out early material by Gauche, Downtown Boys, Snail Mail, and additional acts. While active in Priests, she simultaneously developed solo material under the KAG moniker, emphasizing electronic experimentation and hands-on production across multiple EPs.
Following Priests’ 2019 release The Seduction of Kansas, the group entered an indefinite hiatus, prompting Greer’s relocation to Los Angeles. Her arrival overlapped with the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, during which she remained largely isolated in her new city while developing fresh solo work. Over the subsequent two years she wrote, recorded, mixed, and produced every track on her first proper solo album, Barbarism, which appeared on the FourFour label in June 2022.
