Keito fuses Nikki Colk's feathery vocals with the double-guitar assault mounted by Colk and Dave Lake, a roar that echoes the Goo- and Dirty-era wall of noise perfected by Sonic Youth, while threading in erratic electronic beeps and playful video-game textures.

The group assembled in Norwich, U.K., during 1996, its lineup completed by Nikki Colk handling guitar and vocals, Dave Lake on guitar, Gemma Cullingford on bass, and Diata Quantrill on drums. Early momentum arrived through a succession of 7" releases on Vibrations From the Edge of Sanity: Sandpaper Shuffle appeared in 1998, followed in 1999 by Catnap, Who'eeowee, and 60 Second Popstar, a split single shared with Cato in 2000, and Thwipside in 2001. National Radio One exposure on Steve Lamacq's and John Peel's programs helped build an audience, and Record Collector Magazine named Keito among its Class of '99. The band's first full-length album, You've Seen Us...You Must Have Seen Us..., arrived in 2001; Owen Turner of the storied Magoo produced the set, which mixed fresh compositions with fresh takes on earlier singles.
