Biography
From an early age Kelli Williams sang regularly in church, yet no one in her family anticipated her first professional engagement at ten, when she joined Take 6 and Larnelle Harris onstage. Throughout the first half of the nineties she maintained an active schedule, contributing to the Sisters project and additional recordings issued by the Gospel Music Workshop of America as well as O'Landa Draper. Her 1993 victory on the nationally syndicated talent program Star Search led to a contract with the Word label and the arrival of her self-titled debut album two years later. That project produced the successful gospel track “Thank You,” and after serving as an opening act for CeCe Winans, Williams delivered her follow-up, I Get Lifted, at the start of 1998. The release drew Dove and Nashville Music Award nominations, while her 2000 effort In The Myx received comparable praise.
