Biography
Keren Deberg, who wields a Gibson SG and favors stilettos, stands among the rare performers whose breakthrough traces to both Jonathan Richman and the series Scrubs. She characterizes her style as a blend of Pat Benatar and Gwen Stefani. Immediately after finishing high school she relocated from her hometown of Miami to New York City. Steady performances at local clubs quickly built a loyal audience and drew the notice of Ric Ocasek, the former frontman of the Cars and a noted producer, who enlisted her vocals for Jonathan Richman’s 1998 album I’m So Confused. The following year she appeared at the final Lilith Fair. In 2001 she contributed a piece to Seventeen magazine that recounted her tryout for the vacant guitar position in Limp Bizkit. Her first record, Gone, arrived in 2004; several of its songs had already aired on MTV’s Clone High and NBC’s Miss Match and Scrubs. She also made a brief appearance on Scrubs as a singing nurse.
