Biography
The Keystone Trio emerged as a jazz supergroup after veterans John Hicks on piano, George Mraz on bass, and Idris Muhammad on drums were enlisted to accompany Archie Shepp for a 1995 session. Their immediate rapport led the musicians to pursue an independent project, which surfaced in 1996 as the debut Heart Beats. Later releases encompassed 1997’s Newklear Music: The Songs of Sonny Rollins and 1998’s Solid!, the latter a quartet date featuring saxophonist Eric Alexander.
