Biography
Ho Khic Chi, a master of the one-stringed zither known as dan bau, safeguards Vietnam’s traditional music together with his ensemble, The Khac Chi Ensemble. The musicians produce a haunting, rhythmic sound by performing longstanding melodies on authentic Vietnamese instruments. Since beginning their global tours in 1982, the group has made Vancouver, Canada its home. Alongside Ho Khic Chi, the lineup includes Hoang Ngoc Bich on vocals and as arranger, along with the k'longput (percussive tubes), t'rung (suspended bamboo xylophone) and tam thap luc (hammered dulcimer); Le To Quyen on vocals; Nguyen Hoai Chau on percussion; and Randy Reine-Reusch supplying background vocals, khen be and sinh tien.
